Daniels resigns, opens up Bobcats search for new Womens Coach

SFCC would like to announce the resignation of Head Women's Basketball Coach James Daniel III. We wish him the best in their future endeavors. SFCC would also like to announce the hiring of Women's Assistant Basketball Coach Danielle Parker, who will come aboard after the conclusion of her season as the Northside Middle School Girl's Basketball Coach.A new search has begun for a new Assistant Men's coach and new Head Women's coach.

James Daniel III Named Head Womens Basketball Coach

SFCC would like to welcome new Head Women's Basketball Coach James Daniel III. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY Coach Daniels has been coaching for many years and at many different levels. He leaves his post at Holy Cross Regional Catholic School in Lynchburg, VA where he built the program into a squad that's competitive year in and year out. Coach Daniels has also coached at the most elite level of high school basketball with Bishop O’Connell High School as an assistant with the Boy's team. Darius Echols named Assistant Mens Basketball Coach

The Bobcats men's basketball program would like to announce the addition of Darius Echols as assistant coach. He has been coaching basketball the past 5 years at Carlisle School in Martinsville, VA where he was a 2x state champion and state player of the year before going on to play collegiately at Patrick Henry Community College and Virginia University of Lynchburg. He also owns and operates a basketball skill development company called Positionless Players Club. Help us welcome Coach Echols to Bobcat Nation!

Zachary Hendricks named Head Mens Basketball Coach

SFCC would like to welcome Zachary Hendricks as the Head Men's Basketball Coach. Coach Hendricks has a passion for the game of basketball coupled with a love to help young men and women grow in their lives. He uses the guidance he learned from previous basketball coaches in his life to lead in similar ways. Coach Hendricks graduated from Champion Christian College where he received his Bachelor's degree in Education in 2015. After graduating, he received his first coaching position at Ohio Christian University of the NAIA where he spent 2 seasons (2015-2017) as an assistant under head coach Tony Stockman. He helped guide OCU to a record of 45-25 while apart of their staff. After 2 seasons at Ohio Christian University, he was hired on to become the first ever head coach at Blue Lights Junior College in Apex, NC (2017-2019). Coach Hendricks, along with the BLC staff built the program into a successful program recognized throughout the country. We hope he can do the same for SFCC. Please help us welcome Coach Hendricks and his lovely wife Hada to Bobcat Nation!

Lambert to Coach Backs and Receivers for Football

The Bobcats would like to welcome WR/RB Coach Kwame Lambert to the football coaching staff. Coach K brings the experience and knowledge of having played the QB position, winning a semi-professional championship with the Triad Outsiders. for the last few seasons Coach K has been an assistant football coach with the Halifax County High School Comets serving last season as the Offensive Coordinator and Head Middle School Soccer Coach. He will also serve as Associate Head Coach.

Thomas joins Football Coaching Staff

BLACKSBURG – Head coach Pope Mitchell announced on Tuesday that Rex Thomas Jr. is joining the football program as the Bobcats Defensive Backs Coach. Coach Thomas comes to us after 7 years of playing Semi-Pro and professional football, winning a championship with the Virginia Silverbacks in 2018. He will also assist Coach Mitchell in implementing and coaching of Special Teams.

Football snags Smith to Coach the Defensive Line

ROANOKE – Head coach Pope Mitchell announced on Tuesday that Jay Jay Smith has joined the Bobcats football program as the Defensive Line Coach. Coach Smith comes to us after several years of playing Semi-Pro football where he was anchor on both sides of the ball.

Football adds Sainovich to Coaching Staff

The Bobcats football family would like to welcome Offensive Line coach Katie Sainovich!! Coach Sainovich played women’s tackle football for eight years with the Pittsburgh Force, Pittsburgh Passion, and Carolina Phoenix, where she saw snaps at every position on the Offensive Line. During her playing days, she played on three championship teams: the 2013 IWFL Champions with the Pittsburgh Passion and back-to-back Founder's Bowl Championships with the Carolina Phoenix in 2015 and 2016. However she's no stranger to the men's game having coached semi pro football for three years. When not coaching she works as a mental health provider for children.

Football adds Purify to call the Offense

The Bobcats would like to welcome Offensive Coordinator Ray Purifoy, a southern Virginia native, has been coaching football for the past 6 years. He has held multiple positions, ranging from position coach to head coach. He is currently the passing game coordinator for Texas Military Institute in San Antonio, Texas. After a 7 1/2 year Army career, Coach Purifoy began full time coaching. Coach Purifoy has a bachelors of science degree from American Military University and is working to attain his Masters in Sports Management and Recreation. Coach Purifoy is excited and eager to join the Bobcats program.

ROANOKE – Head Coach Pope Mitchell has announced the football commitment of K Tyler Dunford who they hope will be nailing PAT after PAT while giving the occasional three points with his deadly range and accuracy. Dunford (5-8/160) is a native of Max Meadows, VA and played high school ball at Fort Chiswell before splitting the uprights the last few years on the semi pro circuit

ROANOKE –On Thursday Head Coach Pope Mitchell announced the commitment of WR Garry Becker, a rangy athlete with the hands and size to go get the football. Becker (6-4, 190) a native of Roanoke, Virginia by way of Daytona Beach, Florida played high school ball at Northside High School. Becker last played with the Radford Nitro. In 2019 he accounted for 31 receptions for 523 yards and 5 touchdowns

ROANOKE - Head Coach Pope Mitchell announced the football commitment of OG Malachi Bradshaw whose size and raw ability make him an intriguing prospect for offensive line coach Katie Sainovich. Bradshaw (6-0/325), is a native of Henry County, VA and played high school ball for Bassett High School.

ROANOKE – Head Coach Pope Mitchell has announced the football commitment of LB/DE Bryant Mack, bringing a veteran presence to a first-year program. Mack (5-10, 235) is a native of Vinton, Virginia. After before completing his career at William Byrd High School he went on to play his freshman year at Virginia Union University. He has spent the last several years playing Semi-Pro ball in the where he and current Bobcats commit Maleique Morton were quite the 1-2 punch on the left side of the defense for the Virginia Blitz. In 2019 Mack registered 41 tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks.

ROANOKE – Head Coach Pope Mitchell announced on Wednesday the commitment of DB Walter Franklin, a fiery competitor with ball hawk coverage skills. Franklin (6-0, 180) is a native of Roanoke, Virginia and played high school ball at Patrick Henry High School. Another Semi-Pro guy Franklin has played with New River Nitro and more recently with the Virginia Blitz. In 2019 he accounted for 21 tackles, 2 interception and a team-leading 13 pass breakups on the season.

ROANOKE – Head Coach Pope Mitchell announced Wednesday the commitment of DB Antonio Rudd. Rudd (5-7, 170) is a native of Roanoke, Virginia. He attended William Fleming High School. He has spent the last several years playing Semi-Pro ball notably with the New River Nitro and more recently with the Virginia Blitz in 2019 where he registered 19 tackles, an interception and 7 pass breakups on the season.

Football gets commitment from Latrell "Cheez" Davis

ROANOKE – Head Coach Pope Mitchell announced the commitment of ATH Latrell "Cheez" Davis on Wednesday, adding an electric player who can be used all over the field. Davis (5-9, 185) is a native of Roanoke, Virginia and played locally at Northside High School before playing a year of college ball. He has spent the last several years playing at the Semi-Pro level most notably with the New River/Radford Nitro. In 2019 Davis showcased his versatility rushing for 603 yards and 7 touchdowns on an average of 4.3 yards per carry while snagging 27 receptions for 393 yards and 2 touchdowns. We are excited to welcome him to the Bobcat family.

The Bobcats would like to announce the football commitment of DB Adam Deering making him the first out-of-state student-athlete to commit to SFCC. Deering (5-10/195) is a native of Morristown, TN and attended Knoxville West High School. He has spent the last three seasons playing semi-pro football in his home state of Tennessee. Football gets commitment from Maleique Morton

ROANOKE – Head Coach Pope Mitchell announced the commitment Wednesday of LB Maleique Morton, adding both talent and leadership in the linebacker room.

Morton (5-8, 210) is a native of Vinton, Virginia. He played High School ball at Patrick Henry High School before completing his career at William Byrd High Schoo. He has spent the last several years playing Semi-Pro ball throughout the Roanoke Valley where he anchored the defense for the Virginia Blitz in 2019, registering 59 tackles, including 12.0 tackles for loss. He also had 5.0 sacks, an interception and forced two fumbles on the season.

Football gets commitment from Brandon Gravely

ROANOKE – Head Coach Pope Mitchell announced the commitment of HB Brandon Gravely on Wednesday, making him the first commitment in Bobcats history. Gravely (5-6, 165) is a native of Roanoke, Virginia. He attended William Fleming HS and Ferrum College. He has spent the last three years at playing Semi-Pro in the Southwest Virginia area where he in 2019, he rushed for 576 yards and 4 touchdowns on an average of 3.9 yards per carry. We believe that Brandon will be an integral part of the Bobcat football program.

A new Pope has been elected, as Mitchell is chosen to lead Bobcats

Bobcats welcome new Regional Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, Pope Mitchell! Coach Mitchell comes to us with 12 years of football experience, having played for 7 and coached for 5. He has coached at the high school and semi-pro levels. He holds certifications in sports training, coaching, concussion recognition and first aid, among others! He will be establishing and overseeing the athletic programs which will include football, men's basketball and women's basketball to begin play in 2021 as well trying to establish men's and women's soccer, baseball and softball in 2022. We are very excited about the future of the athletic department and can't wait to get started paving our own way!
